Tarps have been around since the beginning of time. But from pooling water to flapping in the breeze, most of us quickly learn that those drum taught setups of perfection are usually the work of Tarp Grandmasters.

Snow Peak Hexa Tarp 1

Enter the Snow Peak Hexa Tarp. There’s no doubt it’s cheating, it’s a Tarp Masters in a bag!

The shape is ingenious, it’s almost impossible to not set this tarp properly. The main ridge line has two guy ropes – once they are set it’s just a matter of staking out the sides. Because the ridge line is free standing once pegged out, it’s easy to adjust the sides if needed – to drop a side to block the wind, rain or low sun.

There’s heaps of head room – the main poles are 2.8m and 2.4m. The main poles are versatile too, so in rough whether you can simply remove sections to lower the height of the Hexa Tarp and block out more weather. Optional side poles can be used to raise the edges.

The tarp is fully waterproof, and the stitch lines are seam sealed to ensure they too are waterproof.

The build quality appears excellent, as we expect of Snow Peak, and each corner is well reinforced to accomodate the poles and guy ropes, and to withstand the forces placed on these structures in wind.

The 800mm bag has oodles of room for the tarp, poles, guy ropes and your sand screws too. It’s nice and light – stow it in your boat or canoe, or haul it down to a secluded beach for a day of fun.

The kit weighs 3.1kg and the Hexa Tarp is 4.75m x 4.2m. It includes the tarp, 2.8m and 2.4m main poles, guy ropes and carry bag.

The fabric is a 210D Polyester Ox with a Shielding Pigment PU coating that’s a minimum of 3,000mm water resistant and also has a Teflon water repellent coating.
