The design of the INEOS Grenadier is released. INEOS aims to build the world’s purest off-roader; here are the details released so far.

With the release of the external look of the INEOS Grenadier, we got in touch to ask some initial questions.

Do you have a rough estimate for arrival into Australia and Worldwide?

INEOS: It’s too early to confirm our distribution and market entry timings.

What is the estimated RRP?

INEOS: It’s too soon to be specific on pricing, but affordability is a key target for the project – which means being in reach of the potential customers we think the Grenadier will appeal to. To put this in context, we won’t be up there with G-Class, nor quite down at the level of Asia-manufactured double cab pick-ups.

How many units will INEOS be able to manufacture on launch?

INEOS: There will be the usual production ‘ramp-up’, but we are planning on a volume peak of around 25,000 units a year. If demand requires, we can increase our capacity beyond that.

How will servicing, parts and support be handled for remote travellers?

INEOS: It’s too early to confirm our distribution plans, but we are evaluating the opportunities to innovate in this area without the constraints of legacy systems.

Will INEOS make a range of accessories?

INEOS: The Grenadier will have an extensive range of accessories for all off-road and adventure activities.

INEOS Key Design Features

Along with the release of the external look of the INEOS Grenadier, the team have released some of the design features, which gives some insight into the design philosophy for this project.

The beltlines along the sides the INEOS Grenadier are for attaching extra loads or jerry cans. With a similar system, the roof can carry loads, with or without a roof rack. In the rear panel, there’s also an external locker for dirty equipment.

The front fenders are built for sitting on, presumably they’d handle a boot for those that like front access to their roof rack.

The INEOS Grenadier is also designed to carry a Euro pallet; these measure 1200mm x 800mm.

Will the INEOS Grenadier Succeed?

With the cease in production of the original Defender, an event that was no doubt a key trigger for the launch of the INEOS Grenadier, and the rise of electric 4x4s it’s easy to question if the INEOS will succeed in the market.

However, the demand for rugged vehicles is still strong worldwide, and the INEOS Group, parent company to INEOS Automotive has annual sales of ~US$83 billion, so they are well resourced to make it a success.

For now, INEOS has committed to 1.8 million kilometres of testing over the next 12 months. Let’s hope the output from this testing is a vehicle that is both capable, reliable and easy to repair.

INEOS are revealing key engineering details on their site. There is currently information available on the chassis, axles and suspension.
