DRIFTA Fire Pit
A campfire makes camp. Uncontrolled bushfires however can rapidly destroy wide expanses of our country and are a top threat to native wildlife. It's wonderful to see so many campers embracing firepits. It's a demonstration of the great care for our land that so many outback travellers share.
Complementing the range of Snow Peak and Uniflame firepits DRIFTA imports from Japan, their team in Gloucester (NSW) are now producing an Australian made range as well.
The DRIFTA Firepit arrives in a sturdy bag. The bag is made from Australian canvas and is sewn by the team at DRIFTA at their NSW HQ. The steel panels stack neatly within the steel base which keeps the overall package slim and easy to pack. The bag has a velcro closure and the carry handles wrap all the way around the bag to ensure maximum strength.
Inside the bag there is a ground base, the fire base, the four sides and the bottom. Each part has slots inbuilt for easy connection.
Putting it together takes a little thought the first time, but it is actually really straight forward. Simply place down the ground base, then clip the sides and floor together.
This firepit is made from black steel so keeping it dry and oiled (like an axe) will prevent surface rust. Alternatively an occasional coat of the fireproof 'Pot Belly Black' paint will also offer protection.
Firepits offer incredible warmth for the fire size and use less timber. Perhaps widespread usage of them will also slow the increase of wild places that no longer allow campfires.
