Leverpresso
5 minute readDid you ever think you’d be rocking quality espresso wherever the road took you? Neither did we, that is, until the compact Leverpresso came along.

The Leverpresso
Portable manual espresso makers are becoming more and more popular as coffee lovers demand a regular fix of golden elixir. The Leverpresso packs down small and comes in a sleek carry case.

Pleasing appearance and striking features compliment the design. Out of the pouch, it is petite yet robust, the Leverpresso screams quality.

How does it work?
Perching our equipment on the pull-out car-back table, we dismantle the brewer into its various components and get started on the grind.

Dial-in the grind size for ‘espresso’. It needs to be fine. After a little cranking of the ‘Made by Knock’ hand grinder, we are rewarded with fluffy grinds which smell fantastic.

Load the filter basket with grinds and level-off. The Leverpresso uses a ‘naked’ portafilter set up, which means the extraction will pour straight from the filter basket into the cup without pour spouts.

Using the provided tamper, carefully apply pressure while keeping level. Getting the tamp pressure right when making espresso may take some practice.

The filter basket and cup simply screw into the Leverpresso body, ready to brew!

Once locked in, remove the cup and install the optional stand. It looks cool. Next, in underneath goes the cup.
Hot water straight off the boil works well for the Leverpresso as we will lose a few degrees when the water fills the reservoir.

With the water at level, we lift the Leverpresso arms and let it sit for 10 or 20 seconds before ‘pulling the shot’.

Pressing both levers down evenly and consistently provides us with an excellent extraction loaded with crema (deliciously foamy surface of the shot). Having the ‘naked’ filter basket on the Leverpresso allows us to see how our extraction is performing from start to finish. Glorious!

The coffee
Game over. The extraction is complete, and it is time to enjoy an incredibly good coffee. We topped this cup up with more hot water and enjoyed a long-black. You could easily enjoy it as straight espresso, flat white, cappuccino, or whichever your favourite espresso-based brew is!

Final thoughts
Lever-style espresso makers provide high quality shots by far and have the most control over the brewing parameters. The Leverpresso is incredibly portable and is without a doubt a great option for the espresso lover who wants to consistently make quality coffee’s on the go.
