Silky Bigboy

There’s a time for bonfires, but mostly we find small campfires our go to. They’re easier to cook on, to shuffle near and chat beside. Smaller fires also mean there’s less wood to collect or carry too.

We find arm sized logs a great size. They burn effortlessly, but not too quickly. For carving up a pile of these a quality saw will get the job in a breeze, and all without the challenges of travelling with a chainsaw.

The Silky Bigboy isn’t your usual saw. Silky is a Japanese company that has been making fine wood cutting saws since the early 1900s and continues to craft their products in Ono, Japan.

Depressing the quick release and folding out the blade reveals a row of razor-sharp teeth. Yes, axe level care is highly recommended! The Silky Bigboy is available with blades with either medium or large teeth. We use it for dry firewood so carry the medium. The larger teeth are slightly better for greener timbers.

Folded the Bigboy is 400mm, and the blade itself is 360mm in length. At 450 grams it’s easily operated with one hand, leaving the other free to steady your timber.
